How it all started…

It’s been a tough year. With all the heart-wrenching atrocities still happening, it is easy for hopelessness to consume us. But if we lose hope, we lose the will and the belief in a better future.

We wanted to work on a project that reminded everyone that “this will pass”, “better days will come”, “we are resilient”, “we will grow back and flourish”. So we reached out to the talented Emirati artist Mariam Abbas to portray that message, and this a heartfelt collaboration came to life!

What “The Resilient Blooms” Means to us at MASKA?

The Resilient Blooms captures our belief in nurturing resilience, even in life’s most challenging moments. To us, this is more than just a beautiful floral artwork, it showcases natures remarkable ability to bloom anew in the most unexpected places. It’s a symbol of hope that can flourish even when times feel uncertain.

Working with Mariam has been wonderful. She is known for her love for architecture, nature, and the UAE’s vibrant culture. Mariam has created yet another captivating piece. A visual language that speaks of growth and strength and beauty in the most unexpected of places.

"The Resilient Blooms" installation at Dubai Design Week 2024

As you walk into the cylindrical shear space, the installation is designed to momentarily separate you from the urgency of life. It intends to suspend you in a moment of time, to reflect on and take in the beauty of Maryam’s work.

As you walk through the installation, you find fabric flowers blooming onto the walls, a symbol of sustainable growth and regeneration. You also face the “seed wall”, where you are invited to be part of the work and participate in spreading and nurturing the message of hope by taking a piece of the art with you and planting it to bloom.
